OMG…
Just learning. Very cool product and construct. And it is very flexible and easy for creating amazing titles and special effects. I wish there was more explainations and instructions applied directly to function like more text in the pop up clouds or the ability to directly get advice on the tool or button or effect you hovering over
I’m learning Motion 5, and I can say “I really enjoy this application”. I cannot stop using it with Final Cut Pro.
Wow! Just what I was looking for, super simple to use with blazing fast renders.
I really love using Motion. But it could be better if Apple meant it. I would say It needs Raytracing. That’s all im asking.
As with any software, there is a learning-curve to Motion. My familiarity is with After Effects and there are some quirks with Motion that, once learned, are minor. Speaking from my own experiences, this is NOT a software that you can pick up and learn on the fly while trying to churn-out a project under a time-constraint. You’ll likely get frustrated and blame the software when, in reality, it is a user-error/skill-issue.
Very helpful for making my videos.
Every time I am trying to use it the mac disconect the keyboard and the sysytem start failing
Loving it. Allow me to create title and others in advance.
Apple Motion makes the animating process extremely easy. You can create stunning animations from the very basic to complex, without having a lot knowledge about the craft. Moreover, Apple Motion is fun to use unlike its competitors and there isn't a steep learning curve. I truly wish Apple invested more to elevate this application. Who knows? Maybe they will in the future. And I am grateful to Motion VFX for keeping it alive.
There's a learning curve to Motion for sure but it's interesting to be able to create effects and even alter some that come with Final Cut Pro X. You can purchase more effects and transitions for Final Cut Pro X from various sites online but I'd recommend just learning how to make them yourself in Motion. The customization options are incredible.
Learning how to use Motion takes a fair amount of time and effort, but once you understand the basics of how to use the software it opens up unlimited possibilities for creativity.
It is not possible to publish the project with audio sound in the Final Cut Pro Python cannot be used for scripting.
Simple as that. It's a little tough to find tutorials-- either commit to reading the included documentation, or watch a channel like Dylan Bates on YouTube.
It could be a great tool, but the interface is so rough and underdeveloped that it is infuriating to use. It never does what you want, most of the stuff is hidden away in weird places, and you'll probably miss 90% of its features. Feels like one of the bad Windows apps of yore. There just hasn't been enough deevlopment work put in that app on the interface side (understatement), which is probably why they don't let you preview it.
Seems decently capable, I know how to keyframe now. Poggers.
From a distance Motion looks profesional and capable, as if it can be used as a program for motion graphics, but when you take a closer look and use it for only a few hours, you start to discover things. I've been using Motion for over a year and I've always wanted to say this. Firstly, Motion is very outdated. It's visibly obvious that the developer moved there attention to other programs and never looked back. There are so many unnecessary buttons that either do something no one will ever need, or simply doesn't work at all. It's like they copy and pasted Final Cut Pro, tweaked a few things, released it, and then never looked at it again. The output options are so terrible, that if you export a video at the default settings, it'll look like a pixelated mess, so every project you have to choose between exporting it as a video that looks like it was made in 2003, or a video file that's so large you need an extra hard drive for it alone. Secondly, navigation is an absolute nightmare. Every scroll either moves too slow or too fast, and I am still trying to figure out how to zoom in and out with a trackpad. Final Cut Pro figured it out years ago, why is Motion so behind? Navigating the keyframe editor is also a mess. Nothing ever fits in the window, and when I try to simply zoom out, all my keyframes are no longer visible, and I have to go on a scavenger hunt trying to find my lost keyframes. I don't know how much more I can take of this app. I really hope Apple decides to finally update it as soon as possible.
Nothing works intuitively and this app crashes regularly on apple m1 macs. As a professional your time would be better spent learning the dreadful adobes version of this program. The more I use motion the more I hate it. final cut is ok but this program is an awful companion. UPDATE: This is still an awful program. Feels as if it was an afterthought. Apple could have done alot better if they had focused on ease of use and intuitive design and layout. It feels like it would take a degree in this program to work it properly. Unfortunately, in order to have the proper files for final cut to be able to use extra transitions and titles that can be purchased elsewhere you have to have this program installed and have opened it at least once which is one time too many.
do it...
Still a great VFX software that is STILL ONE TIME PURCHASE! Finding tutorials is a lot more difficult than After Effects. But it's got plenty of fantastic features, you just have to learn how to use them. And the seamless way it works with Final Cut is awesome if you also use that one time purchase app!
I bought Motion with the hopes of using it to create audio visualizers for my youtube channel. Unfortunately, I've found it to be basicially impossible to use on any audio longer than a minute or two. Once you import your audio, Motion needs to analyize it. Which would be fine if 1) the analysis only needed to happen once and 2) the analysis was performed quickly. But in reality, anytime you make an adjustment to any behavior in Motion, the analysis starts all over and it is slooooooooooooow. A 4 minute .m4a file takes close to 45 seconds to analyze. So for every tiny adjustment you have to wait another 45 seconds for it to complete. The audio files I want to work with are over an hour long and that means it's essentially impossible to use in Motion. Update: Just for kicks I imported an hour long .wav file into motion. It's been analyzing it for over three hours now and it's only at 58% complete. Second Update: It's been "analyzing" my 1 hour .wav file for 5 hours now and its at 69% complete. Honestly, Apple, just remove the audio functionality from this app. It's unusable.
what an awsome product ,very easy to learn.
Hey Ya'l I love this porgram but its starting to crash like crazy. Very annoying getting through animation set ups as well as simple basic object placement.
learing
I'm new to video motion effects and this is a pretty easy to use interface for the most part. So I apreciate that very much. It's obviously not meant to compete with Resolve or After Effects, and thats prefectly fine. However, I do feel the effects are not as professional looking as they could be, in some respects they are almost cartoony. In general, this is a bit dated compared to whats out there now. I would love to see Motion brought up to par with today's standards, as well as some new features!
I'm learning about Motion, so I'm not quite familiar with all its cabailities. However, I was amazed with its green screen (keying) capabilties. Great product!
Packed with features for a one time $50 purchase. LOVE the no strings lifetime ownership. Beatifully and seamlessly integrated with Final Cut Pro X for lifetime use WITHOUT the Monthly Rent!
I've used it every day for 15 years. I loved apple shake, apple motion affords me almost everything I loved about that save the pulldown interpolation capabilities. which i need less and less
I'm fine with program, but it's incessant need for reassurance in the form of ratings and reviews is inane at best and solidly annoying. Let it go Motion... no one is thinking about you, we're trying to make a deadline. Hopefully you are happy enough to leave me alone and let me work now.
I have been using this program for over 15 years. It has made me a better editor, designer and creative professional. Richard Sandoval Hispaniclifestyle.com
I'm still learning it and so far all is going great!
Perfect for bringing imagination to life!
Yes apple can do away better they had been ignroing one of the most software they ever made i wish to see more about 3d tracking and more effect please Apple please
I love Motion, but it falls further behind the competition every day. Such a shame.
Motion is wonderful graphics and utility tool that I've been using for years. Please show it more love and make it more competitive with After Effects.
I love Motion. It runs smooth, exports fast and lets me iterate motion graphic ideas quickly. Incredibly underrated.
Once you figure out how it works, it is an amazing adition to FCP. Templtizing just about any aspect of a video made easy and complitcated at the same time.
Apple needs to deliver feature updates & bug fixes. Unfortunately new features are rare, many bugs & inconsistancies exist unaddressed, Feedback Assistant doesn't have a dedicated Pro Apps category for reports & requests, templates can't be made for iMovie, Clips or Keynote. Apple appears to lack interest in Motion's development.
I love how Motion and Final Cut Pro X have this symbiosis that makes using both applications so easy and powerful. Also I like how there is a simple way to use Motion and still plenty of pro animation and video manipulation that can be done if necessary.
Apple Motion was my first motion graphics application. I have been using Motion for over 10 years and the love affair continues. It has provided me the edge necessary in this very competitive market.
Motion 5 is a good program if you don't have a large set of Effects, Titles and Transition, if you install these in Final Cut they also get install in Motion 5, when that happen and you select to open Motion 5 it take a very long time for the App to respond because in the background it's loading all those Effects, Transitions and Titles, be prepaired to wait between 5 and 20 min before Motion 5 opens - FYI the system I use is Apple Studio Ultra with 128 in ram and 2TB Hard Drive.
Love Motion, but really want more fuctionality to compete w After Effects and more video tutorials.
The more you dig, the more you realise what Motion can do. An excellent companion to FCPX.
Wow this program is powerful. Allows users to create so much, and the learning curve is relatively easy.
Been using Motion now for a couple of months and I must say that I've been super happy with the capabilities of what you can create to enhance your video's. Yes you can go and download multiple effects that someone already created, but sometimes the fun aspect comes in where you create it yourself and you can feel proud of yourself with the outcome. I would highly recommend Motion to any beginner and or even advanced video editor.
It feels like apple made this amazing product then just kinda stopped innovating. It could be as good as after effects.
The title of this review says it all. It beats After Affects and all other alternatives. And, for the price, it tops the charts even more. Absolutely amazing job by Apple, and I look forward to further updates and improvements!
I'm able to create everything I need to within Motion that I can possible need. There are numerous excellent YouTube channels dedicated to Motion and FCP and how they work together. Creating Rigs for FCP titles and generations has saved me more time than I can imagine. The Pixelmator Pro integration with Motion is also a HUGE bonus!
Great for editing with plenty of plugins !!!
I've been using Motion for rapid development of lower thirds and advaced animations. I love the integration of Pixelmator Pro and FCPX with this powerfull app.
